Natural resources – materials found in the earth that people
use to meet their needs and wants
Nonrenewable resource – fuels that cannot be replaced
Renewable resource – resources that can be replaced
Mineral – substance found in the earth that is neither a
plant or animal
Fossil fuel – fuels formed over millions of years that come
from plants or animals
Environment – all of our surroundings in which people,
plants and animals live
Economy – the way people use natural resources, money and
knowledge to produce goods
Pollution – harmful chemicals that make our air and water
dirty
Acid rain – polluted moisture that falls to the ground
Conservation – protection and careful use of natural
resources
Recycle – using something again
